In today's fast-paced lifestyle, many people find it difficult to stay hydrated. Busy schedules, distractions, and a lack of awareness about daily water needs contribute to insufficient water intake, which can lead to dehydration, fatigue, and other health issues. Despite the availability of various health apps, many do not provide simple, accessible, and engaging tools to track and encourage regular hydration habits.

To develop a user-friendly water tracking app, Mizu, that helps individuals maintain optimal hydration throughout the day by tracking water consumption, setting personalized hydration goals, and providing timely reminders and insights. The app aims to foster healthier lifestyles through continuous engagement and ease of use.

Mizu is a mobile application designed to make hydration tracking simple and convenient. Its key features include personalized daily water intake goals tailored to individual factors such as weight, activity level, and climate, ensuring that each user meets their optimal hydration needs. The app sends automated reminders at regular intervals to prompt users to drink water, helping them stay on track throughout the day.

Based on these insights, I designed simple, user-friendly wireframes and prototypes, incorporating features like personalized goals and reminders.

The overall result of developing the Mizu app was a successful and intuitive hydration tracking solution that significantly improved users' awareness and habits around water consumption. Users reported higher hydration levels, thanks to features like personalized intake goals, automated reminders, and easy tracking methods. The app’s user-friendly interface and engaging design encouraged consistent usage, leading to positive feedback about its effectiveness in promoting healthier lifestyle choices. Additionally, Mizu fostered a sense of community through its social features, allowing users to set group challenges and support one another in their hydration journeys.

Reflection & Taskaways

Creating the Mizu water tracker app during a local community challenge was a rewarding experience that pushed my design skills to the next level. Competing against 20 participants and winning the prize was an incredible validation of my user-centered approach. I focused on creating a simple, intuitive interface that encourages healthy habits, and it was fulfilling to see the positive reception. This project reminded me how impactful thoughtful design can be, and it reinforced my belief in the importance of usability and functionality in every solution I create.
